Here is our suggested list of gear to consider as you pack up for a camping weekend with Denver Guy Camp! Feel free to chime in on our Discussion page, or contact us if needed! Our Q&A page has some gear-related answers as well. Let us know if you have any good addition to any of the lists below!

Equipment (required):

    • Bedroll or sleeping bag
    • Sleeping pad or inflatable mattress (e.g. ThermaRest)
    • Blankets (Nights are colder than you think!)
    • Flashlight or headlamp, with extra batteries
    • First aid kit• Hunting knife or pocket knife
    • Insect repellent
    • Sunscreen
    • Personal items (toiletries, medications, change of clothes, etc.)

Equipment (recommended):

  • Tent
  • Pump for air mattresses
  • Waterproof tarp(s)
  • Strong nylon cord
  • Cell phone ** & car-powered or solar-powered charger
  • Camera & extra batteries

** Note about cell phones: Most campgrounds have NO (or very limited) cell phone reception. Learn to live without cell service and the Internet for a few days. Grindr can wait! : – )

Clothes:

  • Waterproof jacket or poncho
  • Windbreaker
  • [GEAR]
  • Extra socks & underwear
  • Hat
  • Cold weather clothes (coat, sweats, hoodies, heavy socks). It gets COLD at night!
  • Warm weather clothes (shorts, T-shirt, lightweight pants). For the warm, sunny days!
  • Hiking boots (with ankle support)
  • Glasses/sunglasses
  • Day pack/fanny pack

Food & cooking items:

  • Food and snacks. Bring extra to share!
  • Water (2+ gallons per day, though SOME sites have water available)
  • Water bottle/canteen
  • Cooler(s) and other food storage
  • Stove & fuel
  • Matches or lighter
  • Cookware
  • Utensils
  • Dish pans and towels

    Gear you can bring that everyone can utilize (please consider bringing stuff like this):

  • Canopy
  • Folding table(s)
  • Folding chair(s)
  • Lantern
  • Extra stove & fuel
  • Extra cookware
  • Hammock
  • Firewood & kindling **
  • Axe or hatchet

  • Duct tape
  • Garbage bags
  • Hand tools** Note about firewood:  Many campgrounds now have firewood you can buy on-site, subject to availability. Many of us bring a few bundles, just in case. Also, if a fire ban is in effect, we may not use wood fires — a few members have propane fire rings which are legal to use. Most cooking is done on propane stoves anyway. These are also permitted during fire bans.

Entertainment:

  • Board games
  • Cards
  • Horseshoes, Bean bags, Bocce, Croquet, etc.
  • Books
  • Radio/iPod, etc.
  • Guitar (or other musical instruments)

    What about pets?

Your four-legged furry friends are welcome to attend. They must be compatible with people and other dogs. Your dog(s) must be leashed at all times. This is required at all campgrounds! Unleashed dogs can be problematic during food preparation and meal time, so we’re asking you to please obey the leash laws. Be courteous to your fellow campers and be mindful that not everyone is an animal lover.
